Shea nut (Vitellaria paradoxa) is an important indigenous fruit tree in Uganda that takes about 15 to 25 years to mature.

In Uganda, the trees grow in Karamoja, West Nile, Nakasongola, Teso, Lango and Acholi regions. The butter (Shea Butter) extracted from shea nuts has high concentration of fatty acids and vitamins. It also has anti-inflammatory and healing properties (redness and swellings on face)
